Why Is Denim Blue?
When you say "blue jeans," doesn't it always feel a little redundant? Because it seems like every pair of jeans is made of blue denim? So how did blue become the go-to color for jeans? In a nutshell, it has something to do with Levi Strauss, the inventor of the blue jeans. He patented the style with the rivets in order to make jeans sturdy. Of course, he did not invent denim as a fabric, which was a common material laborers already used. He simply made it trendy. Including utilizing those front pockets. At Hyde Park Denim, we also sell pocketing fabric to help with your manufacturing of jeans.
But when it came to using blue dye, he chose it due to its chemical properties. Most dyes permeate denim in hot temperatures, which makes the color stick. However, when it comes to natural indigo dye, it sticks to only the outside of the threads. So, when you wash indigo dyed denim, tiny amounts of the dye washes away. And the thread comes with it. The more times you wash the denim, the softer it gets. Giving it that classic worn-in style. Making it a great choice for anybody to wear.
